A Macaroni Review: Pirates Cove Family Aquatic Center

A Great Cool Down Spot for Children of ALL Ages!

By Sarah Hauge, Publisher, Macaroni Kid, Englewood, Greenwood Village, Centennial August 22, 2017

My kiddos were merely infants the first time I drove past Pirates Cove Family Aquatic Center . Like many parents who had yet to visit, I thought to myself: One day, when my kiddos are much, much older, we'll have to remember to come back and spend a day on the slides. Little did I know that Pirates Cove is actually a great place for toddlers too!

With the sunshine pouring down on us on a hot, August morning, we packed our bags and headed to the water park, unsuspecting of what we might find. The bright, colorful water features immediately drew us in. My kids (ages 3 & 4) could hardly contain their excitement as we walked the grounds, deciding what to explore first.

We started our adventure at the spray garden (shown in the photo above). Then we made our way around the huge playground area, peeking at the smaller slides and waiting for the ginormous bucket to tip our direction. We capped off our tour of the facility by watching as others bravely faced the 35-foot tall slides and then floated along the lazy river. But for two children who have yet to master their swim lessons, the highlight of Pirates Cove Family Aquatic Center was The Beach!

The beach area is unlike anything we've found in Colorado. Not only are there toys available for everyone to use, but there's a small table right in the middle of the sand, which apparently was a genius idea by those who designed the play area. My kids played there for what seemed like forever, and they used their imaginations like never before. Note to parents: don't worry about the mess! There's a shower area to help rinse off any sand when the children are done playing.

Macaroni Tips and Tricks for Visiting Pirates Cove:

  • Arrive early to get the best "spot" and beat the heat. Want a guarantee on a shaded area? Rent a Cove Cabana.
  • Don't worry about packing a lunch. Pirates Cove has great food & drink options.
  • Even the youngest of children will enjoy a visit to Pirates Cove. Children under 2 are FREE!
  • Check the weather before you go. The water park may be closed in the event of inclement weather.
