Exercise at Tommy Davis Park: A Family-Friendly Workout Circuit

By Sarah Hauge, Publisher, Macaroni Kid, Englewood, Greenwood Village, Centennial April 10, 2018

Working out and getting enough Vitamin D are essential for healthy living. Take care of both at Tommy Davis Park in Greenwood Village, a great community resource which provides nine (9!) diverse workout stations, allowing guests to soak up some sun while getting in a little exercise.

Follow the path around the park to try out the available workout equipment.

Rower
Sit-Up Trainer
Circular Leg Press

ROWER
Sit on the seat, place your feet on the stationary pedals, and grasp onto the handlebars with both hands. Pull back for a simulated rowing effect. This station is great for building up strength in your arms and legs while working on coordination.
MacKid Review: My kiddos (ages 4 & 5) were too short to use this station independently.

SIT-UP TRAINER
Sit on the bench with your knees bent and feet tucked under the support bar. Lower yourself down slowly until the back of your shoulders touch the bench. Raise yourself back up, making sure that your abs stay tightened and your back is straight. The sit-up trainer works abs and lower back muscles.
MacKid Review: Again, my children were too short to use this station in the traditional way. However, we did find some alternate ways to utilize this equipment in a safe, fun way.

CIRCULAR LEG PRESS
Stretch your hamstring by lifting your leg over each bar to stretch at various heights.
MacKid Review: This was a favorite for all of us! The varying heights enabled each of us to use the equipment in customized ways.

Arm Wheel Combo
Leg Stretcher
Air Walker

ARM WHEEL COMBO UNIT
This multi-exercise station combines arm workouts, ab twisters, and back stretches all in one unit. Four people can use the equipment at the same time without getting in each other's way.
MacKid Review: This was another favorite exercise station for our family because we could all use different parts of the equipment and work out at the same time.

LEG STRETCHER
Push up on the footholds to work your quads. Two people can use this station at the same time.
MacKid Review: This one was a bit challenging for my kids at first, but we had lots of giggles giving it a try.

AIR WALKER
Step into the footholds and move your legs as if walking. Unlike the elliptical, the handlebar is stationary.
MacKid Review: This one was really fun as it really does feel like you're walking on air.

Pull-Up Bars
Elliptical Trainer
Power Tower

PULL-UP BARS
Exercise your back, shoulders, and arms with traditional pull-ups. Elevate your work out with leg lifts or parkour tricks.
MacKid Review: These bars were much too tall for my little Macaronis and even a bit too tall for me to actually use.

ELLIPTICAL TRAINER
This low-impact cardio workout is a total-body exercise station.
MacKid Review: This one was too big for my kids, but if it was just me, I could spend all day on the elliptical trainer! With its proximity to the water, we had fun admiring the ducks and geese.

POWER TOWER
Work on your pull-ups, dips, and push-ups at this classic bodybuilding station.
MacKid Review: The Power Tower is definitely more suited towards teens/adults as it is quite tall.

Admittedly, my children were much too young to handle most of the equipment, but it sure was fun to try! Plus, there is a great playground in the center of the park, so we were far from disappointed and they still got to have a great workout as well.

NOTE: Most of the stations had instructions for proper use, but when in doubt, check with a professional first! Be sure to pack a water bottle and snack. And most importantly, have fun!
