Your Local Publisher is a Macaroni Kid Flying Pig Award Recipient

September 25, 2018

When Joyce Shulman first approached colleagues about her idea of Macaroni Kid, she was met with rejection and negativity. One person even told her that the idea would take off when pigs fly. In 2009, she started with a single digital publication and today there are more than 570 publishers, 2.5+ million subscribers, and half a BILLION page views. Needless to say, PIGS ARE FLYING!

Each year, publishers from around the country gather for MeetUp, an opportunity for professional development and fun. The multi-day conference ends with a Flying Pig Dinner where six publishers are recognized for their contributions to Macaroni Kid. This year, I was honored with the Flying Pig Award for "110%." As you could probably guess, it's the award for going the extra distance and giving 110% to my work.

I cannot tell you how much this truly means to me. I love my job! My community is what drives me to do better and be better every day. You all inspire me to try new things, explore the unknown, and provide the best content I can for families here in the Denver Tech Center area.

Oh! In case you're wondering what's up with the crazy outfit, here's the scoop: 150 publishers attended Meetup this year. We were divided into 6 different teams for some friendly competition. I was on the red team, "Krewe de Craw," and we all dressed up like crawfish.
