How many families do you know have some sort of food allergy in their home? According to Food Allergy Research & Education (FARE), it's estimated that 1 in 13 children are affected, and that number is on an upward trajectory. Imagine that. 1 in 13. How many children are in your kids' classrooms? Daycare centers? Sports teams? Children affected by food allergies cross our paths every day.

What are some of the most common food allergies? Nuts, dairy, wheat, and fish. Nuts, a common ingredient found in the snack aisle, are such a dangerous food for some kids that many schools have designated themselves as nut-free zones. Regardless if your family has the allergy or not, you may have experienced a change in your shopping behavior when it comes to school-safe snacks. So what is a good option for on-campus eats?

Don't Go Nuts Organic Snack Bars are winners! Not only are they nut-free, but they are certified gluten-free and egg-free as well. Their blueberry bars are even dairy-free! And speaking of flavors, these convenient snack bars are available in Gorilla Power (chocolate chip), Whitewater Chomp (white chocolate), and Blueberry Blast (blueberry).

Last weekend I packed up nearly 500 nut-free granola bars and headed to the Schweiger Ranch Fall Festival to share samples with the community. I say "nearly" 500 because my family had to try them first. And then we had to try them again because they were just so darn good!

Did you swing by our table at the festival and try them for yourselves? The response was overwhelmingly positive- from both parents and kids. And the best part? Those who mentioned their food allergies were just as excited as we were about this great new, school-safe product.

What do they taste like? The chocolate chip and white chocolate varieties taste like freshly baked cookies, and the blueberry one is like a homemade muffin. Which flavor is best? As a huge fan of white chocolate macadamia cookies, I really enjoyed the Whitewater Chomp bars. Those ones had a very similar taste and texture to the actual cookie - without the nuts, of course!

Our family happens to know a thing or two about food allergies, as our daughter is one of the statistics. Though my daughter's allergies are non-life-threatening (thankfully!), we do know some children who aren't as fortunate. Head to your local King Soopers or Walmart store to find Don't Go Nuts snack bars and plant-based protein spreads. Your choice of snacks can help keep other children safe.
