A Quick Guide to Visiting San Francisco with Kids

By Sarah Hauge, Publisher, Macaroni Kid, Englewood, Greenwood Village, Centennial June 12, 2019

San Francisco is one of my favorite cities in the whole world. Rich in history, arts, and culture, this city on the bay is a place that every family can enjoy. Having grown up just a short drive away, I spent much of my childhood exploring the bustling city amenities and was thrilled for the opportunity to take my own kids for a visit this spring.

Five Family-Friendly Venues to Include in Your San Francisco Itinerary

The Exploratorium

With hands-on learning at its core, The Explorium offers six unique exhibits that take you on a journey of exploration- both indoors and outdoors. Play and learn your way through fun, engaging science at the museum ranked on Trip Advisor as #1 of 117 museums in San Francisco.

MacKid Tips & Notes:

  • Disclosure: I was provided with tickets to the Exploratorium to facilitate this information.
  • Recommended for kids ages 5+ (for the best experience).
  • Admission is good all day, so get your hands stamped for same-day re-entry.
  • The museum has even more tips for visiting with kids.

Aquarium of the Bay

Aquarium of the Bay is the only aquarium dedicated to the diverse marine life and distinctive ecosystems of San Francisco Bay. Home to more than 20,000+ marine and indigenous animals, the Aquarium of the Bay is a must "sea" attraction.

MacKid Tips & Notes:

  • Suitable for all ages!
  • Enjoy yoga with the sharks, underwater pumpkin carving, and other exciting special events

Oracle Park

Home of the San Francisco Giants baseball team, Oracle Park is a high-energy arena with breathtaking views of the bay. As an added bonus, check the away-game schedule to watch our Colorado Rockies hit the road and claim victory over their rivals.

MacKid Tips:

  • There's more than just baseball at the ballfield. Enjoy special events.
  • Book a pre-game tour to see Oracle Park up-close and personal.
  • Regardless of the weather forecast, bring a sweatshirt! It's always chilly here.

California Academy of Sciences

The California Academy of Sciences is an aquarium, planetarium, rainforest, and natural history museum in the heart of San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park.
