Macaroni KID Craft: $3 Paper Sunburst Wreath

By Sarah Hauge, Publisher, Macaroni Kid, Englewood, Greenwood Village, Centennial April 12, 2021

One of my favorite aisles at the craft store is the paper section. My imagination runs wild as I browse the beautiful colors, patterns, and textures. I totally have a crafting geek-out moment every time I visit.

For about $3 and few minutes of my time, I was able to make a seasonal wreath with some spring-themed prints and a metal floral hoop. As an added perk, it only takes a few simple steps complete the whole project, so you can make one too!

Supplies:

  • 12x12" Paper ~ I used 5 different prints to make my wreath.
  • 10" Floral Hoop
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Optional: embellishments such as rhinestones, ribbons, pom-poms, glitter, faux flowers, stickers, 3D letters

Directions:

1. Cut the paper into 1.5" strips. If you use a 10" floral hoop, you'll need approximately 30 strips of paper.

2. Fold the paper in half across the hoop and secure the strips with glue.

3. Continue adding the paper strips until you've worked your way around the entire perimeter of the hoop.

4. To get a sunburst look, cut a little triangle out of the end of each paper strip as shown in the photos above. Once you've done this to all thirty pieces of paper, the wreath base is complete! You can stop here or add embellishments to enhance your design.

Doesn't the final design resemble an award ribbon? When I first saw the completed project I thought it would look so fun as a graduation or birthday wreath.

Try it yourself! Switch up the colors and add various embellishments to celebrate your favorite seasons and special occasions.
