Over the past few months, I've realized that this has been a year of transitions for her and she needs a space that reflects these changes. Identifying a Style & Meeting our Stylist
To kick off the project, my daughter and I completed a questionnaire that asked us about the current style of our home and our preferences for her bedroom in particular. We were matched with Denver-based designer, Sydney Stetzel.
We scheduled a video chat consultation with Sydney to review our goals for the bedroom, identify which pieces of her current space needed to stay, and talk through our budget. It was so refreshing to have an actual person helping us through the design process. Sydney shared our enthusiasm for the space and provided creative – yet practical – ideas, all while keeping us focused on meeting our design objectives.
Creating a Pinterest Board & Havenly Design Board
Some of my daughter's must-have requests included a feature wall, a reading chair, and a storage solution for her books. After our initial video chat, Sydney got straight to work creating a Pinterest board highlighting these important items.
Working on the Pinterest board was the turning part of the process where my daughter took the reins. She could express her likes and dislikes on very specific color schemes, themes, and products simply by adding a star to her favorite images and even uploading her own pins with inspiring rooms she found on the Havenly website. I could sense her excitement growing and enjoyed seeing how her favorite items started forming a clear design aesthetic.
Vision Board
After a few days of monitoring the Pinterest page, Sydney styled the vision board. I don't know who was giddier about seeing the vision board for the first time, but my daughter and I both LOVED it. The design felt so fresh and bright and FUN! It had the perfect vibe for a tween bedroom.
From floor to ceiling, Sydney selected colors and styles that were aligned with the vision for the space. Having nailed the aesthetic, it was time to confirm the room dimensions and settle on the shopping list.
In-Person Consultation
Meeting Sydney in person was an absolute delight. She brought a copy of the vision board with her so we could talk through all the different elements before finalizing a layout. Sydney took an assortment of measurements and photographed various parts of the room, including my daughter’s favorite stuffed animal, which made a surprise guest appearance in the 3D rendering.
3D Rendering of the Final Design
In addition to providing us with a floorplan, the final design included 3D renderings from a few different views so we could get a better visual perspective of the space. The room was absolutely gorgeous!
Not only did Sydney incorporate all of the must-have items into the 3D rendering of my daughter's bedroom, but she included some personal touches (like the sloth on the bed and the closet interior) that made this whole process come together in such a beautiful, thoughtful way.
Sydney shared the shoppable 3D rendering through Havenly's online platform, which made it easy to review our curated shopping list for everything in the design. We were able to browse through products one by one, assessing color, material, brand, size, assembly requirements, and price. Most of the items even had designer alternates available if we wanted to make any swaps.
We added my daughter's favorite items to the shopping cart and I was relieved to see that we could afford everything on her list. At first, I wasn't sure how far our budget would stretch, but Sydney did a fantastic job keeping that in mind and ultimately delivered a fashionable, functional room that my daughter will enjoy for many years to come.
Some Final Thoughts
I always thought I had a good eye for design, but I've often struggled with seeing the bigger picture. At 9 years old, my daughter thinks much the same way. Working one-on-one with a professional Havenly designer helped us put those design ideas together in such an easy, streamlined manner.
Throughout the entire process, Sydney followed up with notes about our previous discussions and always let me know what to expect next. I felt comfortable with the timing of each step because it was so clearly defined in our discussions and through Havenly's online platform.
Since ordering the products a week ago, some items have already started rolling in. I have been super impressed with the quality of every single item so far and my daughter is overwhelmed with joy. Havenly truly delivered a dream bedroom for my tween. I look forward to working with Havenly again to update more rooms in our home.
