How to Create Your Own Sparkling Diamond Art Masterpiece

By Sarah Hauge, Publisher, Macaroni KID, Englewood, Greenwood Village, Centennial July 17, 2023

Diamond art is a fun and creative way to express yourself. This trending art form involves using small, sparkly resin diamonds to fill in a pattern or design a pixel-based picture. Making your own diamond art is an enjoyable way to create a dazzling masterpiece- no glitter involved! Can I get a WOOHOO?! 😉 Plus, it's a lot easier than it looks.

Get ready to unleash your creativity and make some shimmering diamond art with our tutorial below.

Supplies Needed:

  • Mini canvas (we worked with 2x2 inch canvas)
  • Diamond drills of any color (~400 drills needed for a 2x2" canvas)
  • Diamond art pen, wax, and tray
  • Diamond art glue and paintbrush
  • Grid template and permanent markers OR pixel art sized to match your canvas
  • Mod Podge & paintbrush

Instructions:

1.) Print out your favorite pixel art or use our blank grid template to create your own. Don't want to use a template? No problem! If you would prefer to freehand your art, go ahead and skip to step #3.

If you want to create your own image on our template, now's a good time to color the grid with permanent markers.

Please note that diamond drills may vary in size and thus not fit perfectly within our grid template. However, once the canvas is covered in diamonds, no one will see the grid, so don't worry if the alignment is slightly off as you work through your design.

2.) Cut out the image and use Mod Podge to adhere it to the front of your canvas. It will take approximately 1 minute for the canvas to fully dry.

3.) Use a paintbrush to apply a generous layer of diamond art glue to your canvas.

4.) Let the glue set for 1-2 hours. You'll know it's ready when it is tacky but not spreadable.

5.) Apply your diamond drills with a diamond drill pen in the pattern of your choosing.

That's it! Want to display your diamond art for the world to see? Add a magnet to the back of the canvas or prop your artwork on a miniature easel.
