As the weather transitions from summer to autumn, take time to indulge in a favorite frozen treat. September 22 is National Ice Cream Cone Day!

Although ice cream is often associated with the summertime, there's no rule against enjoying a scoop or two during fall and winter. Ice cream is a delicious treat that can (and should!) be enjoyed year-round, regardless of the weather.

We have five fun ways to help you celebrate National Ice Cream Cone Day today — or any day you want a delicious treat!

1. Start with a giggle.

I don't know if you'll find this joke rich or simply nutty, but I'll get straight to the pint!

Q. What is an ice cream cone's favorite dance?
A. The twist!

2. Get crafty.

Crafty kids will love making doll-sized ice cream cones using pom-poms and colorful beads!

Roll half a sheet of brown construction paper into a cone shape and glue it together. Pipe a generous amount of glue around the wide end of your "cone" and top with a pom-pom. Add "sprinkles" by dipping colorful beads into white glue and placing them on top of the pom-pom "scoop."

3. Bake cupcake cones.

Put a twist on your regular ice cream cone and fill it with cake instead! You can use any flavor of cake mix and frosting to customize these sweet treats.

We like to top ours with crushed cookies, pretend they are microphones, and have a kitchen karaoke party! Get the recipe here.

4. Break a world record.

On May 18 of this year, a new record was set right here in Colorado for the World's Largest Ice Cream Cone!

YouTuber Matthew Beam partnered with Muddy Bites to build an 11-foot-tall ice cream cone in a Walmart parking lot in Englewood. The final product consisted of more than 1,000 pounds of vanilla ice cream, 300 pounds of chocolate, and 100 pounds of waffle cone. It broke the previous record by about 11 inches!

5. Go out for ice cream.

Obviously, the best way to celebrate National Ice Cream Cone Day is to visit your favorite ice cream shop! This time of year, many stores feature seasonal flavors specially crafted for the change of season.

Baskin Robbins has Pumpkin Cheesecake ice cream while Cold Stone Creamery has added Pumpkin Bread Batter and Caramel Apple to its current ice cream flavors.
