Greenwood Village Winter Sock Drive

Donate socks for the homeless

December 4, 2024

The City of Greenwood Village is collecting new socks throughout the month of December to help Coloradans experiencing homelessness. All sock donations will benefit the Sock It To ‘Em Sock Campaign, a Denver nonprofit serving local shelters.

Socks are one of the primary clothing needs of those experiencing homelessness, and having clean, dry socks helps prevent foot ailments that can lead to emergency room visits.  Since 2012, Sock It To 'Em has given away over 1 million pairs of socks throughout the U.S.

Drop-Off Locations

Collection boxes are available at all three City facilities all December long for participants to drop off new socks. Hours for all locations are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • Greenwood Village City Hall, 6060 S. Quebec Street
  • Greenwood Village Maintenance Facility, 10001 E. Costilla Avenue
  • Curtis Center for the Arts, 2349 E. Orchard Road

About Sock It To 'Em

Sock It To 'Em is a non-profit 501c3.  The idea came to co-founder, Susan Lee, while shopping for Thanksgiving dinner items in 2011. Not able to let go of the idea, she emailed a group of friends about the idea of collecting socks through the end of that year and then donating them to local homeless shelters. One of those friends, Phillis Shimamoto, stepped up to assist in the efforts to co-found the organization, and together they led the efforts and collected 575 pair and delivered them locally. During that delivery, they were told how important and how needed they are to the homeless community. So, they expanded their reach to mobilize volunteers to join the efforts by becoming Sock Ambassadors.
