Greenwood Village Police Department proudly hosts an annual Citizens Police Academy, which offers citizens the opportunity to learn more about GVPD and its combined efforts to ensure the community's safety. The Academy consists of twelve sessions, followed by a graduation.
The 2025 classes will be held:
- Thursday evenings
- 6 pm to 9 pm (location varies)
- February 20 through May 8, 2025
There will be two optional training classes that may take place on a Saturday. Those dates will be provided during the first class. The final session ends with a celebration for class graduates and their guests.
What do participants learn?
Sessions are designed to give participants a better understanding of local law enforcement through active participation in a variety of fun and informative classes. Graduates leave with a greater awareness of police operations and crime reduction efforts within Greenwood Village.
Academy course topics include:
- Investigations
- Forensics/Crime Scene Investigation
- Firearms safety
- Patrol Operations
- 9-1-1 Center operations
- Emergency Response Team
- Traffic Enforcement
Participants will tour the Greenwood Village Police Department and have the opportunity to receive training in CPR. Academy participants are also encouraged to accompany a police officer on a ride-along during a patrol shift.
Who is eligible to participate in Citizens Academy?
Citizens Academy is free of charge and open to anyone, not just Greenwood Village residents. There is no cost to attend.
To be eligible for the Citizens Academy, applicants must:
- Be 18 years of age or older.
- Have no felony convictions and give consent for a background check as part of the application process.
- Have no misdemeanor convictions within one year of application.
- Any requirement may be waived or modified upon review and approval by the Police Chief.
