Ross-University Hills Library is part of the Denver Public Library system.

There's no denying that my family loves our local libraries. In fact, we often find ourselves driving a few extra miles to explore ones we haven't been to before. Earlier this month I took my preschooler to check out the Ross-University Hills Branch Library and participate in their weekly Art Works Preschool Crafts programming. We quickly learned three things. 1) This fantastic community resource is located in an easily accessible part of town. 2) It has a wonderful children's area. 3) Guests can find great programming for kids and adults alike.

Convenient Location: If you're considering an adventure on the light rail, this could be the perfect place to visit! Located less than one mile from Yale Station, it will take approximately 15 minutes to walk along Yale Avenue. Albeit a busy street, there are nice sidewalks and safe places to cross traffic. When you're done visiting the library, the University-Hills shopping center is across the street. Stop by for some lunch before heading home for the day.

Children's Area: When we first got to the library I was surprised by how small it looked. I was doubtful that we'd stay long or even enjoy ourselves, but I was so wrong! When you walk in, the children's area seems to go on and on. Separated from the rest of the library, it has tons of books and media as you'd expect, and a good-sized play area filled with toys, puzzles, and hands-on activities. Children and caregivers alike seemed to be thoroughly enjoying themselves in this fun play space. My favorite part was the fall-themed felt board that kids could arrange and rearrange over and over.

Art Works Preschool Crafts & Family Programming: The Art Works Preschool Crafts class took place upstairs in a private room. Chairs were filled with smiling preschool-aged children and babies. A librarian read a few stories to the group and then introduced us to a simple craft. My son was thrilled to have an abundance of stickers to choose from! Before leaving for the day, we asked about other kid-friendly events and were far from disappointed with the range of activities for all ages and interests. Art, music, science, technology, and even ballet are just a few topics celebrated in the family programming at Ross-University Hills library.

If you haven't been to Ross-University Hills Library, add it to your list of places to visit. And be sure to take a peek at the Macaroni KID calendar to find a class or community event!
