Apply Now for the Summer 2021 Teen Program at Cheyenne Mountain Zoo

Students, ages 12-18, are invited to apply to Cheyenne Mountain Zoo's summer programs just for teens! Spend the summer learning about animal conservation, stewardship, and environmental exploration.

  • Zoo Crew is open to tweens/teens, 12 to 14 years old.
  • Junior Zoo Keepers is open to teens, 15 to 18 years old.
  • Teen Leaders is open to teens, 15 to 18 years old.

The 2021 summer program runs May 26th through August 8th with opportunities available 7 days a week. Teens will have the flexibility to sign up for specific program dates online to help accommodate each family's unique summer schedule.


Zoo Crew 

Work hand-in-hand with Zoo staff and engage with guests in rotating stations. The program's cost is $600.75 for the 3-month session, plus 1-month training.*

  • Conservation Stations for Exploration, Conservation, and Education
  • Edventure Trips
  • Assist Keepers in The Loft, My Big Backyard and Goat Yard
  • Junior Camp Mentor for Summer Camps
  • Face Painting and Button Making

Junior Zoo Keepers 

Work hand-in-hand with Zoo staff to care for a specific animal area. The program's cost is $500.75 for the 3-month session, plus 1-month training.*

  • Loft: small mammals, reptiles, amphibians, birds.
  • African Rift Valley 1: meerkats, zebra, vultures, Red River hogs, African birds, tortoises
  • African Rift Valley 2: giraffe, African lions
  • Primate World: gorillas, orangutans, siamangs, golden lion tamarins, naked mole rats
  • Conservation Highlands: Amur tigers, snow leopards, Amur leopards, Pallas's cats, boreal toads, black-footed ferrets
  • Rocky Mountain Wild: moose, mountain lions, Mexican wolves, lynx, porcupines, turkeys, grizzly bears, river otters
  • Encounter Africa: elephants, rhino
  • My Big Back Yard/Goat Yard: goats, turkeys, chickens
  • Australia/Scutes Family Gallery: wallabies, budgies, alligators, tree kangaroo, reptiles, emus
  • Commissary: animal diet kitchen

Teen Leaders 

Work hand-in-hand with Zoo staff to mentor their peers as CMZ ambassadors. Teens may apply for Teen Leaders and Junior Zoo Keeper together.

  • CMZOO Ambassador

To be considered for a summer teen program, submit your application (and $20 application fee) no later than February 22, 2021.


* Cheyenne Mountain Zoo has a scholarship fund for its Summer Teen Program and is committed to working with families to make sure price is not a limiting factor in their child’s experience.
